Top three 6th Grade students will advance to the Orange County Spelling Bee for a chance to compete in the 2018 Scripps National Bee in Washington D.C. Registration extended again until November 24th.
6th Grade Spelling Bee
The 2018-19 Spelling Bee at Canyon View will NOT take place this year as there was not enough parent interest in supporting this program nor were we able to confirm a volunteer chair to run the program. This program will no longer be renewed next year until further notice. Thank you.
The Orange County Spelling Bee is sponsored by The Orange County Register and administered by the Orange County Department of Education. Winners from school or district spelling bees participate in the county’s Preliminary Written Round. The top spellers from the written round advance to the Final Oral Round, where students spell words orally, round-by-round, to determine the top speller in the county. This program is only for 6th Graders at Canyon View at this time.
The winner of the Orange County Spelling Bee advances to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland (near Washington D.C.). The winner’s participation in the National Spelling Bee is also sponsored by The Orange County Register.
The Orange County Spelling Bee supports California State Standards by encouraging students to improve their spelling and expand their vocabularies which positively affects reading and writing skills. In addition, spelling bees help strengthen the 21st-century skills of communication and character development that will help students to be successful in school, college, and life.
All events for the Orange County Spelling Bee are held at the Orange County Department of Education in Costa Mesa.
