Please note:  The following is a list of helpful descriptions of activities in and around our community.  This is offered only has a reference and any opinions of judgements are not that of the Canyon View PTA as these are descriptions provided by parents, vendors, and 3rd party sites.  We provide these because we are constantly asked about all the various activities that are available to our community and being able to participate in activities with other Canyon View families helps further develop our community-building efforts.

The Northwood Point Flash Swim Team is a community based swim team that participates in the Irvine Swim League (ISL). Swimmers on the team are residents of the Northwood Pointe Village of Irvine, CA. Swimmers’ ages range from 5 to 18, with a maximum of 130 swimmers. It is a summer recreational team that only operates during the summer months.

The team aims to provide a fun and safe learning environment for kids to learn proper swimming techniques. Through coaching, encouragement, and competition we hope to increase each child’s swimming ability and confidence.

All of our coaches, as members of the American Swimming Coaches Association, have access to the most comprehensive training and certification program for youth coaches of any sport in the United States. They provide assurances that the time children spend in swimming will be quality time.

We are a non profit club run by an elected Board of Directors which meets each month. All members are welcome at each meeting and encouraged to be involved in team activities and fundraisers.

Speed Aquatics

This is a year-round conditioning program that is held right here at our Meadowood pool. This may be a good option for those swimmers who simply want to stay conditioned throughout the year but don’t necessarily want to be involved in the full team atmosphere. If you would like to learn more about the program, please attend an information meeting at the pool on Thursday 31 August from 5:30-6:30 pm.

This Irvine-based team operates mainly out of Woollett Aquatics Center. The team offers two options: NOVA Intro is for conditioning only. You may swim no more than twice a week, and you’ll receive very little technique work. The NOVAquatics Swim Team is a highly competitive club team that has produced a handful of Olympians. It is a very large team, but there are many different groups that cater to different levels of swimming from beginner to national and international competitors. The monthly dues can be a bit higher than other teams, and families are required to fulfill a minimum amount of volunteer hours (which varies from 50+ to 60+ hours) per year. For more information please visit

SoCal Aquatics

This is a Tustin-based club team that many of our Flash swimmers compete with during the year. Like NOVA, it is also one of the top nationally ranked competitive teams, but it is mid-sized, has a lower monthly cost (about $90-$120/month depending on the group) and has minimal volunteer commitments. SoCal offers leveled swim groups based on ability and commitment. For very early beginners there is a group where the coach is in the water with the swimmers teaching them proper technique until they have mastered the strokes and can compete and move up to the next level. Swim meets are optional (although they do encourage you to participate in and volunteer at the two yearly meets that are hosted by SoCal). Families are expected to fulfill a short timing shift at away meets only if their swimmers are participating in them. For more information please visit

This is another top ranked club team based out of UC Irvine, although they offer some practices at Woodbridge High School and Portola Springs High School. Please visit their website at [] and get in contact with a team manager.
