Room Parent

Being a Room Rep is an important and highly rewarding job. Children enjoy and remember when their parents volunteered as their room rep. It is just as memorable and rewarding for the parent. Room Reps benefit by being highly involved in their child’s class and have a close working relationship with their child’s teacher. The efforts of a Room Rep are greatly appreciated by the school, teachers, and other parents.

Duties

  • Attend mandatory Room Rep meeting on Thursday, September 13th at 8:30am
  • Plan classroom parties with other same grade level room reps and teacher (and recruit help from other classroom parents)
  • Collect donations from classroom parents for parties and Jog-A-Thon T-shirts (funds are not to be used for teacher gifts)
  • Keep track of those funds or work as a parent grade team to come up with a grade treasurer
  • Recognize teacher’s birthday
  • Assist with classroom yearbook page
  • Ongoing communication with teacher and classroom parents (email, notes home)
  • Help coordinate your class participation and volunteers for the Spring Jog-a-Thon
  • Help coordinate an optional raffle or silent auction prize for Fall Festival in addition to the one the grade team provides
  • Welcome new students and families into the classroom

Guidelines

  • You may not be a Room Rep or Assistant for more than one classroom, but you may indicate interest for more than one to help with options in our placement process
  • In most cases, there is only one lead Room Rep and one Assistant per classroom
  • We do our best to honor preferences, but sometimes many more parents volunteer than we can place
  • Our teachers are very involved in the process as well at the PTA. They will approve all Room Rep and Assistant placements
  • Teacher gifts are NOT to come out of any classroom party & Jog-A-Thon T-shirt donations collected.  If your classroom wants to give a group teacher gift, another non-Room Rep parent should do this.  Room Reps are an official representative of PTA and can not ask other parents to chip-in for a teacher’s gift
  • Know that ALL students receive a Jog-A-Thon T-shirt whether or not money was collected from the parent; so parents should be made aware of this policy of making sure no student is left without a Jog-A-Thon T-shirt on Jog-A-Thon day
